RP:]] St Luke's Reform School For Young Gentlemen

"Oh the joys of social work, eh? I think I should just put someone on to guard your office every day of the week."

I carry Brian on my arm as I check the area, smiling at all my fellow officers as they get ready to sweep for evidence in the area. Not that there is much point.

"So, you still think you'll be up for lunch at The Beef Shack now?" I laugh, only now just remembering that we had a lunch date, all this excitement made me forget, even though I am very hungry now.

"We've got security guards but they're all fucking retards." I explain, "I feel safer when they're not there."

Our guards are all skinny little high school kids who needed summer jobs. None of them are actually qualified in anyway and the majority of them would snap themselves in half if an angry psychpath so much as looked at them.

"And yeah, lunch sounds great. Just keep me away from sharp implements coz I'm likely to impale my hand."

"Ooooh, and we wouldn't want you to do that, it's such an important instrument for a bachelor," I say with a smirk as we make our way out of the fire doors and into the cocoon of police cars.

Medics come rushing over to me and Brian, taking him away from me and escorting him towards the ambulance. They always like to get in there before us police officers do.

I follow slowly towards the ambulance, adjusting my uniform as I glare at the back of the paramedics heads.

I sit on the stretcher wincing and whining at the medics as the grab at my hair - normally a big turn on for me, now anything but. They're probing and poking, it's probably not even that big of a deal. In fact, if anything, they're causing more damage than they're fixing.

"Do you mind? You're... OW!" I whine, smacking one of the medics on the arm, "Y'know, I have a friend with the cops, I could get you thrown away for assault."

The medic tells me to shut up as he continues looking over my head. Satisfied after god knows how long that there's nothing wrong with me, just a mild concussion, he stops probing.

The small crowd of doctors disperse and head over to one of the women who is currently throwing up everything she didn't eat this morning. I glare after them.

"Sadistic bastards."

Travis gives me a knowing look as he makes his way over to me with a notepad in hand. I glare at him and stop on my way over to Brian.

"What?" I ask him as I rest my hands on my hips.

"You really lost your cool in there, to protect your.. boyfriend..." Travis smirks at me.

I laugh, "Oooh Travis, you naive straight boy. He is NOT my boyfriend."

Travis gives me another one of his 'I know you are lying so stop the act look,' something that seems to be permanently on his face.

"Shut up, OK? It was a long time again, in high school. It's nothing."

I sigh as he just looks at me more, not blinking this time. Man, no wonder he is on the negotiation department.

"Oh come on," I sigh as we both make our way over to Brian whose sat on the step of the ambulance, glaring at the doctors on the other side of the parking lot.

I turn away from the doctors, a smile on my face as I see Coby and Travis heading towards me. It may be for dull, boring statment taking but at least they're not going to jab mercilessly at my wounds. They're nice. On occasion.

"Y'know I'm sure those guys are breaking some kind of law." I say, cocking my head to the medics who are now being gentle and caring with the woman who's been ill, "Sexism or... something. I rub at my head, unintentionally flattening my hair, "Ow."

I lean back a little against the step, trying to get more comfortable, something that's pretty much impossible with these damn things. This kind of metal is only good for James Hetfields guitars.

"So I take it you need to know what happened in agonizing detail, right?"

"Y'know it," I say with a smile as I stand in front of Brian.

Travis gives me yet another look before taking a seat next to Brian on the step, ready to take some notes down for our report on this later. Oh fun.

"And don't worry about the medics man, they are always pissed off with something and need to take it out of on someone. Plus they love to get one over on us. They are going to be talking for ages about how they got to you first and all that shit. Idiots."

I look back over at the medics as Travis starts to ask Brian some pretty open questions.

I look back at Brian, crossing my arms over my chest and just watching him. He's really beefed up a lot since high school really. He's got a hell of a lot more tattoos, his muscles are nearly bursting out of that dress shirt, it's insane. He's got a lot more tanned now, which I so don't get since we life in New York and he never goes to tanning bars, not that I know of anyway.

I've done this way too often recently. Who'd have thought that a job keeping kids safe from the kind of monsters I grew up with could be so dangerous? All I wanted to do was get kids away from dangerous parents, to succeed where the system failed with me. Instead I get held hostage by nutjobs, I get dumped by every girl I date because I'm 'too involved' and half the time, I can't do anything.

"I'd had to testify against him at their custody trial. The whole professional witness deal. That's how he recognized me. I condemned his parenting abilities, he obviously didn't agree and now he's out for revenge like a bad horror film. I was the only person he hurt, I was the only person he bothered attacking, I'm perfectly fine, lock him up, throw away the key, can I go nowwwww?" I ask, whining and bouncing up and down on the step, like the petulant child I still haven't grown out of being yet.

I luagh a little under my breath at Brian, my arms still crossed over my chest as Travis takes his notes down.

"Don't worry Travis, I was a witness, I saw the main attack I can write up the rest tomorrow. Being in a cell with some drunks isn't going to hurt him," I grin at Travis, he catches what I'm saying and grins back at me.

I watch him as he stands up, patting Brian on the shoulder and thanking him before making his way over to me.

"Don't do anything I wouldn't do."

I glare at him as he stalks away from me and Brian, looking back with a massive grin on his face. I roll my eyes before taking a seat next to Brian. I check my watch.

"So, I'm off duty for a good hour or so in... two minutes," I put my arm back down again and look at Brian, "you up to walking off your concussion and grabbing something to eat?"

That is probably the worse thing to ask right now, but hey, I'm off duty, I'm not a cop all the time.

I regard Coby with a cheeky smile on my face, "You've become the stereotypical New Yorker cop, Cobes. Always thinking about food. You'll have a coronary by the time you hit 30."

I can't resist baiting him about this. Even with the amount of donuts and suchlike he's bound to consume, I've seen him at Kripsy Kreme, he's still looking good. Nicely toned, just enough so that he's threatening in the uniform but not a slave to the gym equipment like I am.

"But y'know, food might be a good idea. Slept through my alarm again, skipped breakfast. I meant to steal one of the seven muffins Buckner always brings in but y'know, sometimes things don't go quite to plan."

I smile at him, "Well, only two years left then. I'm sure I'll live, Travis and Mark don't eat donuts, besides I'm not your stereotypical desk jockey cop."

I will be honest when I say I don't think we get enough respect in the police force, so I tend to defend my honor quite a bit.

"But seriously Brian," I help him up from the step, "you're the one that's got to take care of yourself. I mean, the most stressful jobs are for those who work with kids, and you work with both kids and adults, can't be good for you," I smile.

I hear the bleep on my watch go off, telling me that my time to protect and serve is off for at least an hour. What a relief?

"So, now, I am off duty, what's your poison?"

"It's worth the stress if at least one kid can grow up to be happy and stable. And of course there are the awesome drawings I keep getting of me as superheros. Y'know one boy the other day actually told me I was cooler than Batman. But I'm not as cool as Iron Man coz I can't fly. We tried, didn't work."

I smile as I remember the little boy. He was so brave, so optimistic despite everything going on around him. His family had abandoned him yet he still held out hope that he'd find a new family to love him.

"And I am open to anything right now. As long as it's going to get me away from this insanity."

I smile at Brian's little story, he looks so sweet when he's talking about all the kids he's helped. He looks so endearing.

"That's so sweet," I say, I don't really have any stories like that.

All I have are stories of teenagers throwing up on my shoes from drinking too much at a wild party. I would share this, but I think this would bring everything down.

"Well, we can just go to a diner close by, get something greasy and fatten? Just to add to my cop stereotype?"

"Fattening and greasy, my two favourite words in a morning." I say with a smile, "Sounds good to me. I fancy a lot of bacon."

I wrap my arm around his back, still a little bit shaky on my feet. I ignore all the knowing looks from his peers. They seem to think there's something going on between us. Couldn't really be much further from the truth, we haven't been a couple since school. ~~Not that I haven't thought about it every single day since then.~~

"So, wifey, lead the way..."

I let Brian wrap his arm around my back and I wrap my own arm around him for support.

I shot a look towards my colleagues as I take Brian towards me car. I shot an evil smirk to Travis.

"Looks like you'll be getting the bus back to the station," I grin at Travis as I help Brian into the passengers seat of my patrol car.

It's nice being in the front seat of a police car. I feel less like I've been busted for something stupid. Drunk and disorderly beng my most common misdemeanour. I lean back against the seat and tap my fingers on my knees.

"How is it," I ask as Coby slips into the other seat, "that your work car is even better than my car car and all you ever do is cruise around in them? Surely it'd be more cost effective to give you guys reinforced boxes on wheels."

I turn and stick my tongue out at Travis who's glaring at us both in the car now.

"I'm going to get booked for mocking a police officer next time I see him, aren't I?"

I laugh as I turn the key in the ignition, "No. I'm his supervising officers, he can't do anything like that without my say so."

I know he probably knows that already, but I do like to flaunt my knowledge for the law around.

I am about to reserve out of my amazing parking and get back onto the main road when my phone rings. I put it on loud speaker without even looking at the screen.

"Shaddix?" I answer as I continue to reserve.

"Hey Coby Baby, it's Arran."

I widen my eyes as I look behind me, holding onto Brian's head rest as I start to reserve.

Shit shit shit, why did I give that hooker my number?! Oh that's why, the sex was amazing.

Baby? I bite my lip and try desperately hard not to start laughing. Since when has Coby had a new man in his life? One who likes him so much he gets to call him baby? I look across at him, a cheeky smile playing on my lips.

"Baby?" I mouth.

I'd normally be more jealous about this kind of thing but right now I'm still trying to get over the baby comment. I think I might have been hit harder than I thought. He's lucky it's me in the car with him right now, not Travis.

I glare somewhat at Brian before adjusting my mirrors getting ready to head off.

"Coby? Baby?" I cringe again at the baby comment.

"Yeah yeah, I'm here, sorry A I'm driving," I tell him as I put the car into gear and start to drive down the highway.

"What's up?" I ask, "Keep in mind, I've got a..."

"Sweetie. Where are you? You said you'd come round today? I've got something for you."

I sigh a little, "I meant this evening, I'm working right now."

"Can't the crims wait? I miss you..."

Ooooh God.

Any annoyance I may have felt at Coby has completely disappated as I listen to this new boyfriend talking to him. Oh dear. He's bagged himself a good one here. Nice and clingy, full of over the top endearments, desperate to get his man there as soon as he can.

I figure I should probably help out a little here before I'm forced to listen to what sounds like it could turn into some kinky attempts at phone sex.

"Arrrgh, you fuckin' pig faggot!" I snap in my best tough guy voice, "I ought to come up there and show you what it means to be a real man, fuck you!!! FUCK YOU!"

I smile at Brian in a while of thanks before lifting my hand a beating it against the wire fencing behind the head rests.

"Hey, you three, stop it back there!" I yell out to play along with Brian's attempt to make Arran hang up.

"Arran, I've gotta go, I'm alone here with these guys, and I just picked them up from a bikers bar for... assault?" I shrug a little.

"Ooooh, Honey, you are so brave," he says in a dreamy voice, "I'll see you tonight OK? I love you."

I cringe, "yeah yeah yeah me too bye."

I hang up the phone with a sigh of relief.

I spend a moment just smiling at him, a cheeky little smirk. The kind I've always got whenever I'm about to ask a barrage of questions and make someone very, very uncomfortable.

"So," I start, "Arran? Tell me about this bundle of quirky delights then?"

I feel a little put out that he hadn't bothered to tell me that he was seeing someone or that he'd fallen for someone even. I didn't think we needed to keep secrets from each other.

"Oh, he's just some guy I met," I say, "At a club y'know?"

He doesn't need to know that he's a stripper at a strip club that took a real shine to me.

"Yeah, nothing special," I say as I continue to drive down the long strip until I can find a relatively quiet diner.

"So, you felt a need to save me back there with him then?" I smile at I look back at him, "Thanks."

"Just a guy? Well, he sounds like he's really into you." I say, looking back out of the front of the car. I mimic the voice I heard coming through the phone.

"You're soooo brave Coby, I've got something to show you Coby, I loooove you Coby."

It still feels awkward saying that last part outloud, even if I am just joking around, knowing everything we've shared, that once upon a time I could say that without it being part of a joke.

"And of course I needed to save you. There's no way I was going to be listening to your phone sexcapades."

I roll my eyes at him, "It is nothing, OK?"

I say a little more forcefully than I had intended to so I sigh and look back at Brian.

"Sorry, just a little, yeah," I say as I look at him, I could never lie to him, could I?

"Yeah, well thank you anyway. At least you didn't do what Travis did and listen to us quietly as Arran tried to get me undressed, even though I was driving."
